Chip Taylor (US)

> Songs from a Dutch Tour

# # #

On december 3d of 2006, Chip Taylor (68) played a concert at our club for the first time. What a feast this was! Almost exactly two years later he returns for a solo performance, bringing along a brand new (mini-) album New Songs Of Freedom and a new book Songs From A Dutch Tour. Two years ago we experienced that Chip is quite a storyteller during his concerts.
Among other stories, he told us of his meeting with reggae star Shaggy, who had a massive hit with his adaptation of Chip's song Angel Of The Morning. It sold than 13 million copies, and yielded Chip a fifth notation in the charts with this song (the first time around was in '68 with Marrilee Rush's version). Just Think about it: who did not record this gem? Well, Nina Simone, The Pretenders, Olivia Newton-John, The Tremoloes, Bonnie Tyler, Ray Coniff and a.o. Dusty Springfield did.
A similar story can be told about Taylor's other world hit Wild Thing, the song that The Troggs made into a US number 1 back in '66. Other versions were made by a.o. Jimi Hendrix, The Meteors, Cheap Trick and Aerosmith. Needless to say that we booked a great americana singer-songwriter.
