There is a similar festival to HIHP in Vlaardingen, Holland, called Zomerterras. This year, we managed to cooperate with them in order bring over Terrakota from Lisbon, Portugal. This energetic band proves that there is more to Portugal than fado: what to think of a band that combines reggae, hiphop, Senegalese mbalax, Congolese rumba, Sahara desertblues and Ivorian coupé decalé? Anything you can dance to, really.
The story of this band starts in ’99, when three band members travelled through Western Africa for a couple of months. Back in Portugal, they put together an 8-piece band with the Angolese Romi Anauel as leading lady. 10 years later there are 3 CD’s, of which Oba Train (’07) meant their international breakthrough. Since then, they’ve been playing big festivals in Europe, including the Belgian festivals Afro-Latino and Esperanzah. Sometimes a comparison is made with Mano Negra, thanks to their incredible vitality on stage.
