Okon & The Movement gaat op tour. De band bestaat nog niet zo heel lang maar kan wel al een EP’tje als bewijs van zijn bestaan voorleggen. Het jonge zestal van OTM brengt op die titelloze EP een mix van soul, jazz en hiphop.
In de muziek staat de indrukwekkende stem van Judith Okon centraal. De Belgische met Nigeriaanse roots zette haar eerste muzikale stappen op het jazzconservatorium. Daar ontmoette ze de muzikanten waar ze uiteindelijk Okon & The Movement mee zou vormen. Maar eerst maakte ze een uitstapje langs Maximum Basie. Ze begon er als backing vocaliste, maar mocht al snel de lead overnemen. In mei van 2012 won ze de prijs van de beste solist op het Brussels Jazz Marathonconcours. Wie Judith al eens live aan het werk zag voorspelt haar een grote toekomst.
Voor Okon & The Movement verzamelde ze vijf muzikanten rondom zich. Een daarvan is all-round pianist David Thomaere. In 2012 ontving hij de prestigieuze Toots Thielemans-award, een bekroning voor het beste afstudeerproject aan het conservatorium van Brussel.
En deze getalenteerde bende gaat dus op tour. In maart spelen ze een vijftal optredens in Duitsland. Daarbij doen ze onder andere Berlijn en Munchen aan. De avond voor hun afreis willen ze hun set nog eens live uitproberen. En het wil toch wel lukken dat N9 villa daarvoor dé ideale locatie is.
Okon & The Movement is going on tour. The band is quite new but they already recorded an EP. The young sextet of OTM mixes soul, jazz and hip-hop on their untitled EP. The impressive voice of Judith Okon is the centre of the music. The Belgian with Nigerian roots took her first musical steps at the jazz conservatorium, where she met the future musicians of Okon & The Movement. But she made a trip with Maximum Basie first. Judith began as a backing vocalist, but she could take over the lead soon. In May of 2012 she won the price of best soloist on the Brussels jazz Marathon concourse. Those who saw Judith live, predict her a bright future. She gathered five musicians for Okon & The Movement. On of them is all-round pianist David Thomaere. In 2012 he won the prestigious Toots Thielemans-award, a coronation for the best study project at the conservatorium of Brussel. And this talented group goes on tour. In March the pentad will play in Germany. They will perform in Berlin and Munich. They want to try their live set the evening of their departure and guess what, N9 villa is the perfect venue for this occasion!
