KOMBI

KOMBI is the solo project of João Kombi (TEST), launched in 2024, exploring drone, noise and experimental music through intense, physical and deeply immersive performances. In a remarkably short time, the project has established itself as one of the most active and internationally visible names in Brazil's contemporary experimental music scene.

Following its first European tour in 2024, KOMBI released the album Alimento a Dor on 12” vinyl in 2025. The record was selected by journalist Andy Cumming (Sounds and Colors) as one of the year's standout releases, further defining the project's sonic identity through dense textures, extreme timbres, improvisation and raw, visceral performances.

Since its debut, KOMBI has toured extensively across Brazil, Europe, Japan and Australia. Highlights include performances at Novas Frequências Festival (Brazil), Prague Microfestival (Czech Republic), Tokyo's Oriental Force (Japan), Melbourne's legendary Make It Up Club (Australia), as well as appearances at renowned venues such as Sowieso (Berlin), Cave 12 (Geneva) and Kabinet MÚZ (Brno). The project has also collaborated and shared stages with artists including Carla Boregas (Brazil), City of Caterpillar (USA), Yowie (USA) Simon Grab (CH) and the Japanese band Birushanah.

In late 2026, KOMBI will return to Europe and the United Kingdom for a tour alongside Deafkids, performing ten opening shows.

Alongside his solo work, João Kombi is best known as one half of the Brazilian duo TEST. In 2026 alone, TEST performed more than 60 concerts across Japan, China, New Zealand and Australia, including an appearance at the acclaimed Dark Mofo Festival in Tasmania, further strengthening João's presence within the international experimental and extreme music circuit.

Combining improvisation, drone, noise and expanded guitar techniques, KOMBI continues to develop a distinctive performance language, connecting underground experimental scenes across different continents.
