Mauro komt. Ooit werd hij bekend met Evil Superstars en tegenwoordig is hij de sidekick van Tom Barman in dEUS. Daarnaast speelt hij in, bij benadering, nog 732 bands en projecten tegelijk. Eigenlijk moeten we niet veel meer over hem vertellen. Behalve dan dat hij ditmaal komt met zijn band Hitsville Drunks. In 2014 brengen ze hun langverwachte plaat "Sincerely Average" uit. Die plaat is al een lange tijd in de maak. De band werd namelijk opgericht in 2007, en bestond toen enkel uit Mauro op zang en gitaar en Herman Houbrechts op drums. Al snel kwamen er ook Jan Wygers (van Creature With The Atom Brain) op bas en Antwerpse Nederlander Sjoerd Bruil (zie Sukilove) op gitaar bij. Allen vrienden van Mauro, en ooit al aan het werk in een of meerdere van zijn 732 bands en projecten, die we hier verder niet gaan opsommen. In dat zevenjarig bestaan trad de band niet zo heel vaak op. Ze doken de voorbije jaren wel op tijdens Mauroworld in Trix (Antwerpen) en Vooruit (Gent). Ook nu zullen ze maar een handjevol optredens geven om de debuutplaat te promoten. En dan nog liefst op speciale plaatsen. N9 villa is er daar een van. Altijd fijn om zoiets te horen, natuurlijk.
En wat doet die zoveelste Mauroband dan precies? Mauro zelf omschrijft de stijl als powerpop. Muziek waar elke jongere over zegt: “Dat is muziek waar mijn pa naar luistert”. Mauro wil met Hitsville Drunks op energieke wijze songs brengen. Energieker dan met een akoestische gitaar, maar toch zonder distortion. En met veel melodie. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan Nick Lowe. En daarbij zingt Mauro over je zus, of over de zoektocht naar een identiteit. Nummers uit het leven gegrepen dus.
O ja, dit concert valt op Valentijn. Breng gerust je lief mee, maar let wel op dat Mauro er niet mee gaat lopen…

We don’t think so, except maybe the fact that he comes with his band Hitsville Drunks this time. In 2014 they will release their long awaited album ‘Sincerely Average’. They have been working on the album for a long time. The band was founded in 2007 with Mauro on vocals and guitar and Herman Houbrechts on drums. Quickly Jan Wygers (from Creature With The Atom Brain) joined the band on bass and Antwerp Dutchman Sjoerd Brull (cfr. Sukilove) played guitar. They’re all friends of Mauro and they all played in one of his 732 bands or projects. Since the founding of Hitsville Drunks, the band hasn’t performed that much. They appeared recently in Mauroworld in Trix (Antwerp) and Vooruit (Ghent). Even now they won’t perform a lot to promote their debut album. They prefer special venues, like N9 villa. Always nice to get such a compliment! And what does this Mauro band do exactly? Mauro describes their style as powerpop. They play the kind of music about which every young man thinks, “it’s music my dad listens to”. Mauro wants to bring energetic songs with Hitsville Drunks. More energetic than an acoustic guitar, but without distortion. And with a lot of melody. Think of Nick Lowe. Mauro sings about your sister or about the search for an identity. Songs of the real-life. And by the way, this concerts takes place on Valentines Day. Bring you girlfriend, but be careful because Mauro could be leaving with her.
