Elliot Brood – a band from Toronto (Canada) who mixes death country with indie in a really fun way - was our guest in March. Today we welcome fellow citizens and style mates of New Country Rehab. The media has named this foursome the Canadian answer to The Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons and “the next big thing in Canadian music”. Even the bombast of Arcade Fire is there. You can hear the energy of a rock’n’roll band, moderated by the subtlety of country music. By adding some poetry they’ve created a style that they like to describe as High Voltage Alt Country. The musicians want to respond to the sweet-voiced pop that currently goes by the name country. The band has already released two albums. The untitled debut album was launched in 2011 and in March 2013 the second album Ghost of Your Charms was released. On both albums they alternate between their own work and classics and covers of artists such as Hank Williams and Bruce Springsteen. This concert takes place on the last day of the Week van de Smaak (Week of Taste). This year’s theme is water and fire. We’ll be treating all visitors to a free spicy bite. Undoubtedly, food and music traditionally make an excellent combination. As usual, refreshing water will be disposable at the bar. Cheers!
